Mr. M A Munim

@ President, BCA1960

President’s Message

It will now be our aim to take BCA to a new height.

This is a very special BCA Award’s night and as I
welcome everyone, I also want to say Welcome
Back! This evening not only marks the 15th year
of BCA’s Annual Awards, but is also BCA Diamond
Anniversary – where we have been supporting this
industry in the UK for the last 60 years. Where has
the time gone my friends?!
This year also holds a special place in our hearts,
because it marks 50 years of Bangladesh’s
Independence. In a short span of time, the
Bangladeshi diaspora has become successful and
BCA is very much part of this story. Where today,
nearly every town can boast at least one of our
curry houses and takeaways.
Sadly, we all know that this last year has been
difficult due to the pandemic, and not just here in
the UK but globally. It has had devastating impact
on the hospitality and catering industry, which
has been impacted the most. We have all faced
tough times, but we have faced them together,
and is why as your President, I am both proud and
pleased to be with you tonight.
Over the last 60 years BCA has worked tirelessly
for its members. We are an organization that has
grown from humble beginnings to doing great
things, and it has earned a strong reputation.
Owing to the hard work of our forefathers and
previous members we have become a formidable
campaigning voice for Britain’s curry industry.
This Diamond Anniversary, marks our 60 years of
service for our members and this industry. Where
BCA has had a positive impact, supporting 12,000
British Bangladeshi restaurants and takeaways
across the UK. From the start of the COVID-19
pandemic we campaigned the Chancellor and
the rest of the government to reduce VAT; freeze
business rates; we asked for uniform business
relief packages and approach; and we highlighted
the shortfalls of grants and bounce back loans. I
am proud to say we were heard.
BCA will continue to campaign on your behalf and
will always be ahead of the business challenges
that our members face. We will always work hard
for our members, putting your interests first.
We have come a long way together and in
spite of the lockdowns and difficulties, we as an
organisation came together, and distributed a
quarter of a million much needed free meals to the
NHS, care homes for the elderly and other key front
line workers, including offering heavily discounted
meals to the NHS at 50 per cent. Thank you all for
this fantastic and proud achievement.
Tonight, we recognise the best talent from BCA’s
chefs and restaurants, who are making exceptional
food. I congratulate all our finalists and as always,
the competition has been tough. Good luck to all
our finalists.
BCA’s 15th Annual Awards is a night of pride and
I thank you all for your support. I would also like
to thank all our guests, sponsors, the hardworking
award committees and sub committees; and the
team behind tonight.
Let the celebrations begin!
This Diamond Anniversary, marks
our 60 years of service for our
members and this industry. ”
